The 6 - cadence - long ( 20 - foot ) " awful"-smelling decomposing carcass of a ocean “ fauna ” washed ashore in the Philippines over the weekend , stumping nautical experts and inciting local legend about impending instinctive disasters .

EEC Mediareports the mysterious “ hirsute ” blob seem Friday eve in the town of San Antonio , Oriental Mindoro state . Here , local residents gathered to photograph photos of the greyish - white carcass and express fear over   it being   abad omen .

“ An earthquake is heading for Oriental Mindoro . The creature is a sign of something bad approach . Please pray for us , '' resident physician Tam Maling toldEEC Media .

" Many were alarmed , include me , when we memorise the news about it . It has been order that when creatures from the deep part of the sea initiate come out , something bad will take place , ” added Vincent Dela Pena Badillo .

This is n’t the first “ globster ”   – defined as an unknown mass of constituent material – to wash ashore in late age . Last class , two other “ hirsute ” blobs turned up in the Philippines , one inSeptemberand another inFebruary .

But are these disgusting masses really something to be fear ? likely not .

“ It wait like a decomposing giant carcase , ” said Molly Zaleski , a marine life scientist based in Alaska , in an interview with IFLScience . “ The ‘ white bushy hair ’ is just the tissue level kind of sloughing off as it decompose . You see the same kind of whitish appearance in Salmon River that have spawn and are just waiting to go in the river . "

Zaleski sound out alike events occur in Alaska when dead giant wash ashore   – often sparking afeeding frenzyamongst local bears   – “ though a great deal of those have already been stripped pretty much to the bone by sharks , other Pisces , and crabs . ”

Marine worker , who arrived to take tissue paper sample of the “ unidentified creature ” and dispose of its remains ,   have a interchangeable working theory .

“ For now , we can say it ’s a heavyweight , but the exact species is still unknown . The tissue sample are now sent to our lab for DNA analytic thinking , ” aver Fishery Law Enforcement Officer Vox Krusada to EEC Media .

But everyone can check these globs are foul - smelling and gut - wrenching .

“ I really experienced the full power of its smell because I ’m the one who took the tissue samples . I almost puked . I feel well after taking a bath but the stench still linger in my nose , " say Krusada .
