Kelsey Grammerhas gone through a journey as a father of seven.
Speaking with PEOPLE at theChristopher & Dana Reeve FoundationGala on Thursday evening, theFrasieralum opened up about how his kids are a “big part” of this chapter of his life.
“I work on a lot of things. I like the idea of being sort of a magnet. Try this, try that. Some of them don’t work out, some of them don’t,” he said, adding, “Kids are a big part of it now.”
The 67-year-old actor is father toAuden, 5, Kelsey, 7, and Faith, 9 with wifeKayte Walsh. He shares son Jude Gordon, 18, andMason Olivia, 21, withex-wife Camille Grammer. He is also dad to actressGreer Grammer, 30, with Barrie Buckner, and 39-year-old Spencer with ex Doreen Alderman.
Overall, Grammer thinks fatherhood has “never been better,” and added: “It’s the greatest experience in the world, the joy every day of being with my kids.”

At the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation Gala, Grammer opened up about his friendship with the lateChristopher Reeve, who he attended Julliard in New York City alongside years ago.
Noting that he remembers his friend as “the most beautiful man I’d ever seen,” Grammer told PEOPLE, “He was a good guy. … It was my first year [at Julliard], he came in the middle of our first year, and joined our group six withRobin Williams.”
“I was a little more on the periphery, honestly,” he added, “but as we grew together a little bit more, I got to know him better.”
After being “kicked out of Juilliard,” Grammer said he “ran into” the Superman portrayer “when he was flying.” He said, “He was just always just an extraordinary man. Just spending time in this presumptive joy.”

When Reeves was cast in his superhero role, Grammer said he called a friend to tell her the news. “We were all just so proud of him,” he explained.
“It was such a great thing. We talked a little bit and I said, ‘Whoa man, this is f—— amazing.’ And I saw the movie, and I was just so proud,” added the actor.
Grammer next stars inThe 12 Days of Christmas— premiering Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime — alongside his daughter Spencer.
