Puzzle #5: Strange Syllables

homophone are lyric that are spelled other than but sound the same . There are few precious examples of four words that are all homophones of each other ( like knew , novel , gnu , and the Hellenic letter nu ) . The puzzle is to find something even rarefied : four two - syllable words that are all homophones of each other . Again , no proper nouns .
I ’m only mindful of one satisfying answer to the homophone teaser ( a couple of others only work in some regional accents ) . Although most reader will have encountered all of the root words , they may not have realized that they ’re spelled otherwise . Because sire words from thin gentle wind is difficult , I ’m croak to give a hint . If you ’d like to set about the teaser without a hint , do n’t read on .

Solution to Puzzle #4: Lewis Carroll’s Pillow Problem
Last workweek , Ichallengedyou to a probability puzzle from the brain that brought us the Mad Hatter . Many citizenry have a strong hunch that there is a 1/2 chance that the marble remain in the base is whitened . There was a 1/2 chance at the beginning , and your catgut might evidence you that tossing in a white marble and then pick a white marble out of the dish should not change this likelihood . Since the bagful A guinea pig guarantees that the remain marble is also white-hot , the observation of pull a white marble actually increases the chance that the remaining marble is blank .
