Grocery prices have soared in recent months due to a number of factors, including inflation, andGirl Scout cookiesare not excluded from the effects.

In an email sent to the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson Community (GSHH) in New York state, an interim CEO for the council informed troops that cookie prices would be rising from $5 to $6 per box.

Certain specialty flavors like S’mores and Toffee-Tastic were already priced at $6, but now classics like Thin Mints and Samoas will join that price tier. (Both S’mores and Toffee-Tastic will stay at $6.)

The email cited “production and inventory challenges” with Little Brownie Bakers, their baking partner.

“Unfortunately, both LBB and GSHH are not immune to inflation, and costs have risen for all aspects of the business," it reads. “While we cannot guarantee that the upcoming cookie season will be without challenges, LBB is reducing the number of councils they serve in the spirit of providing a better experience for councils and customers."

“In some instances, councils are faced with the tough decision to raise the prices, though prices have remained steady in many areas for a number of years,” said the GSUSA spokesperson. “When you purchase Girl Scout Cookies you are getting more than a sweet treat, all the proceeds stay local to help power amazing experiences for Girl Scouts in your community.”

The Girl Scout cookie price hike does mean a positive change in rewards for the GSHH troops — including a base increase of each package sold, and crossover bonus rewards.

But the change has left some cookie fans disappointed.

“You can raise the prices on whatever you want but do NOT raise Girl Scout cookie prices,” wroteone X user.

“Inflation got the Girl Scout cookie prices going up smh,” addedanother.

According toCNN, other chapters, such as those in Louisiana, another in New York, and the Girl Scouts of Northern California, introduced price hikes in 2022.

The Girl Scouts of the USA also confirmed toTodaythat the last year’s newRaspberry Rally cookiewillnot be coming back for another season.

“We are taking a pause this season to prioritize supplying our classic varieties,” a spokesperson toldToday.

The Raspberry Rally was considered a “sister cookie” to the beloved Thin Mints. Rather than mint, the treat consisted of raspberry flavor but was dipped in the same chocolatey coating as the minty fan favorite.
