Local media mercantile establishment in Las Vegas were invited for a sneak peep of Elon Musk ’s new physical body of ‘ public transportation ’ onThursday . But just how futuristic is this engineering , which Musk ’s Boring Company has dubbed the “ Loop ” ? That depends how futurist you call back a car being driven slowly by a homo interior of a tunnel might be .
The $ 52 million Las Vegas Loop , a tunnel baby-sit 40 foot surreptitious , is about 1.5 miles long and has three stops around the Las Vegas Convention Center : Central Station , which is underground , as well as West Station and South Station , which are both above ground .
Mick Akers , a newsperson with the Review Journal , tweeted a fistful of video showing the Boring Company ’s Las Vegas transportation system in action on Thursday . And it looks pretty underwhelming , to say the least .

The videos show a Tesla cable car being driven by a human equipment driver and it has a top speed of just 35 naut mi per hour , according to the Review Journal . And while yesterday ’s medium trailer was supposed to be a particular smell for Las Vegas media outlets exclusively , it sounds like newsman on the land did n’t get much new data at all .

“ Now , we ’ve drive to see a fate on this tour of duty . Heck , I ’m in a Tesla right now going through it , ” reporter James Schaeffer said , trying to sound like this enlistment had been well worth his metre .
“ But there are some details that we are not so sure of … that we ’re still finding out more about , like the loading and waiting procedure time and about the 16 - passenger vehicles that will be amount through these tunnels , ” Schaeffer continued . “ Until then , we ’ll just be going along for the ride like everyone else . ”
Whatever happened to those16 - person vehicles ? When Musk first announce the Loop , it genuinely looked like an exciting novel transportation system . Musk promised that each vehicle could match over a dozen people indoors and everything was autonomous .

But it does n’t appear like much of anything is automatic anymore . You even have to tell your human driver where you need to go . The Boring Company upload a video toVimeowith statement for the Las Vegas Loop with those precise instructions .
The big selling power point is that your 15 - hour pass from one side of the convention center to the other is shortened to “ just a couple of minutes , ” according to theLas Vegas Review Journal . But , again , questions about cargo prison term are still very much up in the air .
“ At full capacity the Boring Company ’s Convention Center Loop can transport 4,400 people per hour in its 62 vehicles fleet , ” Akerstweeted , seemingly contradicting his colleague who reported that it ’s stillunclear . Gizmodo could n’t confirm anything , given the fact that Musk is notoriously uncongenial to diarist and even shut down Tesla ’s PR section latelast year .

At full capability the Boring Company ’s Convention Center Loop can channelise 4,400 people per 60 minutes in its 62 vehicles fleet . This June ’s World of Concrete show will be its first great test.#vegas#boringcompany#elonmuskpic.twitter.com / LX6xtEFtth
We still have quite a few questions that are n’t easily do by the Boring Company ’s colorful videos . And hopefully those questions will be answer when the Loop open up , likely sometime in the next few months .
At the end of the twenty-four hours , what did reporters get to see on Thursday ? Colorful lights . spate ofcolorful light source , it would seem . And not much else . We ’re not tell that Las Vegas wasted $ 50 million on a stupid burrow , but we ’re not not enjoin that either .
