doc Who : Room With A Deja View hits computer memory this Wednesday , put up a mystery you have sex the solution to , a Doctor with only himself to thank , and a comic that makes playing with the medium more fun than you ’d expect .
The 32 page oneshot from IDW ( who just launched a monthly series starring David Tennant ’s physician recently ) easily slots into the television show ’s current persistence , giving us a solo Doctor attend for a fellow traveler to talk to ( or is that boast to ? ) before come up with a novel candidate : himself . Not in the “ Three / Five Doctor of the Church ” sense , but in a means that play with time travel in a more immediate fashion than the show normally let itself .
In fact , playful describes the Holy Writ well ; author Rich Johnston ( Yes , that one ) catches Tennant ’s voice more successfully than creative person Eric J catches his likeness , and more than that , gets the show ’s semi - whimsical , semi - sentimental , striking - in - its - own - way look down exactly ; the plot could have come directly from the show , but the carrying out is beyond what British families would be quick to find out on Saturday evening … which is a very good thing indeed .

There ’s a chichi to the book ’s gimmick – explicate on the first pageboy as a “ warning ” : “ piece of this comic may study better backwards rather than forward , ” it says , missing out that that ’s the only way you ’ll really be able-bodied to infer what ’s run low on ( Do n’t worry ; it ’s much well-defined to read than it is to explain . There ’s also colour coding to help you , too , but you ’ll have to beak up on that one yourself ) – that both Johnston and J befittingly underplay , perturb you instead with in - gag ( Inspector Mozz and Looz ? Really , Rich ? ) and familiar themes ( The Doctor ’s forlornness , the reverence Time Lords get from other races ) . In other hired man , the reverse - read could be annoying and overplayed , but here it ’s just … there , and an important part of the secret plan that happens to have worked its agency into the reading experience . It ’s successful , but more significantly , refreshing .
This is n’t the kind of thing that would win over masses who ’d never heard of Doctor Who before – it ’s little , but how much can you really pack into only 22 page of story ? – but for fan of the show who need a localisation in this regular - seasonless year , this is a faithful , well-informed add-on to the canon .
Doctor Who : Room With A Deja Viewis released this Wednesday by IDW Publishing .
