Over at Livejournal , New Zealand blogger Stella Matutinawrites about how much she ’s been enjoying the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction lately . And then she amount up with an intriguing verbal description of some of her favorite stories that she ’s read in there :
As I register the November / December 2011 issue , I began to opine specifically about the variety of science fabrication they publish . I realized that a lot of it is what I imagine of as baroque SF ; that is , SF ready in the remote time to come and/or on other populace where the societal structure has led to a decided class system that promotes decadence and ride much of the conflict . The advanced engineering may resemble magic in some deference , too , though everyone in the story is quite readable that it ’s scientific , not mystical .
I really like the terminus “ baroque SF ” — is there any dependable full term for the kind of stories she ’s describing ? Or should we just go onward and adopt her language ? Any thought ? [ Stella Matutina on LJ ]
