The curse of videogame movies blend in far beyond the repugnance of Uwe “ Bloodreign ” Boll ’s oeuvre . The Super Mario Bros. flick , made in the early nineties and starring the most unlikely Bros ever : Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo . The filmmakers take a lot of familiarity in conform the videogame , make a parallel Earth where dinosaurs evolved into intelligent beings but resourcefulness are scarce , germs are rampant , and King Koopa ( Dennis Hopper ) controls everybody with his Diamond State - evolution machine . This is a great clip of the machine in action .
The crafty plumber Bros. have unintentionally get into the dinosaur earth , and are trying to rescue Luigi ’s love interest Daisy — who , it turns out , is actually the princess of dinosaur townspeople . Evil Koopa has contract over by Delaware - evolving the good king into a primordial sludge , whose icky strands blanket the dinosaur urban center . Now Koopa want to break through the dimensional doorway to Earth , so he can have all the resource of our lovely , primate - footrace world .
The movie is as cheesy as you could suppose , and yet I love it for its flakey inventiveness in the face of orders that must have been something like : “ Make a movie about guys who jump up and down in a mushroom mankind . ” The concept design is greatest , with the sludge - covered , polluted dinosaur metropolis looking cool and cartoony at once . Plus : these are real doer , multitude . Say what you want about the unbelievably silly premise , but Hopper , Hoskins , and Leguizamo know how to make the good of it . require something cute and incredibly unknown to watch tonight ? Super Mario Bros. might be the ticket .
