Check out this outstanding photo of NASA ’s intrepid Opportunity rover . The Agency ’s HiRISE tv camera caught a rarefied glimpse of the space vehicle on Valentine ’s Clarence Shepard Day Jr. while orbiting high up above the “ Murray Ridge ” section of the western rim of Mars ’ Endeavour Crater . Can you spot it ?
Here , have some arrows :

Blue arrow point to tracks leave by the rover since it enrol the area determine here , in October 2013 . The scene covers a patch of priming coat about one - twenty-five percent knot ( about 400 meters ) astray . North is toward the top .

The bird of passage does n’t feature very conspicuously in the photograph – but then , this exposure was taken from quad , so just sit and mull that over for a bit . NASA ’s HiRISE – the most potent camera we ’ve ever institutionalise to another satellite – does n’t capture photos of planetside rovers very often , and even when it does they can be punishing to fleck . When I spoke with HiRISE Principle Investigator Alfred McEwen back in January , 2012 , the camera had been used to bewitch a photo of a space vehicle on its line of descent to the Red Planet ’s surface ( a exploit it repeated in 2012 during Curiosity ’s landing ) , but , if I recall correctly , nobody on the HiRISE team had yet managed undercover agent a rover in any of the almost 22,000 photos capture by the tv camera up to that compass point .

The team has capture a few picture of the satellite ’s machinelike visitors since then , however , includingthis one of chance on July 8 , 2013,andthese stunning shots of Curiosity ’s space litter .

Point being : small though Opportunity may appear in the picture , this really is a uncommon and beautiful monitor of all that we ’ve reach in our endeavour in blank . A pic of a robot on Mars , captured by another robot revolve Mars . If you do n’t think that ’s amazing , I really do n’t know what to separate you .
