It ’s been at least a year since I ’ve seen a new portable Bluetooth loudspeaker system that was n’t some half - hearted rehash of the millions that come before . But this niggling B&O number — it ’s something .
Bluetooth speakers began with the Jambox , a construct so impossibly simple that of class a dorky headset manufacturer came up with it instead of some storied audio component company . A utterer that you could easily connect to wirelessly to bring music off your telephone . Duh . It was a conception so elementary , so successful , and so easy to replicate , in fact , that today the market is flooded with loudspeaker system from brand you know , as well as from opportunist upstarts you do n’t . Basically everything young out there is insufferably boring . There are some not bad options — I’ve tried a tonof these things — but the rest is junk you should n’t give a second look .
The Beoplay A1 total from Danish sumptuosity brand Bang & Olufsen ’s more affordable B&O lifestyle blade , and though its $ 250 price tag is more expensive than anything we ’ve ever recommend in the class , it ’s not outrageously price for a company whose stuff can well be thousands .
More importantly , it ’s very good seem . Its polished aluminum design and sturdy root make it a refreshing departure from the charge plate - and - cloth numbers that overshadow . It looks more like it come from a fancy design store than from the “ last - minutes gift ” round - up on your favorite widget blog , Gizmodo .
