It should come as no surprise that iPhones and iPads are select mark for theft , but it ’s gotten really bad in New York City . It ’s so bad that , according tothe New York Post , the NYPD is setting up a unit specifically to handle iDevice theft and work with Apple to dog down the stealer .
The new task force will work bridge player - in - hand with Apple to track down the locating of stolen ‘ launching pad and ‘ phone using the unparalleled International Mobile Station Equipment Identity numbers game of each . Once the NYPD figures out what the number of the steal machine is , Apple will lend a hand and show out its specific location so that the law can track ’em down . And , ideally , Johnny Law can take down some of the villainous criminal gang that trade in that sorting of thing too .
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne put it this way toThe Post :

We ’re looking for style to get hold individual who have stolen Apple products and return the product to their original owner . It is being done to learn the pattern who is stealing .
Historically , Apple has been somewhat hand - off when it comes to helping law enforcement get over down steal devices . Sure , it ’s provided applications that canhelp a user take some initiative , but that ’s not quite the same . It seems that this confederation is intended to combat the especially bad state of personal business in NYC specifically , but maybe it ’ll drift out to other metropolitan areas as well . Even so , the best defense is just to keep an oculus on those things . Or get less likable widget . [ The New York Post ]
