The Vikings were responsible for for crafting some weapons that smiths still depend back on with wonder today — but did that ingenuity stretch to also building something capable of stopping those weapons ? Yes , but it might not reckon on the dot as you imagined .
In response toreading about this super unattackable ancient sword , commenterLaurenShawshared some knowledge pulled from her gothic sketch on what Vikings wore for protection :

Some Vikings did wear armour . There are accounts about chain mail ( just called post ) being a high status natural endowment for service . Ther are also examples of Lamellar , both from sagas and eastern finds . I draw a blank which saga has the issue of tejecting weighing machine armour because it is ancient and ineffective . I remember understand it . But when you sail , anything that hinders swim might be a bad idea . The main items for a Viking would be a helmet , a buckler , a tongue , and then a spear or an ax . Using a rotund shield provide a big protective advantage that makes armour less important when fighting in a shield paries . cushioned gambesons would probably be establish most often , as a nice bit of padded armor is easy to put on once you get to dry country , and it does help rduce the impact of a wound . helmet , though , would be very important . It ’s one thing the Vikings TV show does n’t show very well .
Ah , but what would those helmets look like ?
The lack of helmet would be true in the early full point of raiding monastaries and villages , absolutely . Helmets would believably be more like hardened leather caps at that time , and evidence for them rot by jolly quick . I recollect as more and more fights take place between our plunderer and local forces in England and France that the selection of helmet and armour would improve . As Jarls and even Kings decided to patronise larger raiding fleet and look to finalize new lands , we ’d see an gain in equipment . Towards the remnant of the dubbed Viking earned run average , most warriors would in all probability have a helmet , passed along from a relative or taken from someone else fallen in battle on either side . It ’s complex hooey and changes so much in such a poor period of clock time , which is why it is so entrancing !
