Gravity necessitate nearly four ( and a one-half ) days to make . That means for four years , Alfonso Cuarón had to deflect a lot of not - so - great idea from the studio that had invested million into his hazardous enterprise . Thanks to our undivided consultation with the director , we now do it what some of those crappy thought were .
Warning : looter below , for hoi polloi who have n’t seen Gravity yet .
Gravity is actually kind of a huge destruction porn motion-picture show . Everything blows up .

Alfonso Cuarón : Yep .
Did you have to fight for the film to be more of a small , character - focussed part ? rather of centre on all of the end ?
When we set up to publish the script , it was about that . What we were trying to do was a motion-picture show about hard knocks and the possible effect of a rebirth . All of thing that accrue aside metaphorically , and in the life of this woman .

So there was no pressure level anytime from anyone to centre more on the wipeout and less on the characters ?
When you go into the process , yes , there are a mint of ideas . People initiate indicate other stuff and nonsense . “ You need to cut to Houston , and see how the rescue mission goes . And there is a ticking clock with the deliverance delegation . You have to do flashbacks with the backstory . ” But we were very clear that this was the picture that we want to make .
I ca n’t imagine this picture leaving [ the principal character ’s POV ] . But I sympathize people shift things . So what was the weirdest proffer that you hear on how to change Gravity ?

This is the matter , you will always try vocalization . With making a film it ’s like trying to create a melodic phrase in the shower , while you have a hundred people singing around you . You have to focus yourself in on the tune that you ’re judge to produce . Because you have century of multitude singing different songs at the same time around you . There ’s always that .
The whole thing of the flashbacks . A whole matter with … a romantic relationship with the Mission Control Commander , who is in making love with her . All of that kind of stuff . What else ? To finish with a whole rescue helicopter , that would come and deliver her . material like that .
There ’s always stuff like . But I have to say , with all the multitude — and we ’re talking about the studio — in the end , they were all very respectful because they had a clear scene of what we were doing . And I understand all this . You have to empathise that in this is the process … in many way I do n’t know how they did it .

Because they put a mint of money [ into Gravity ] and they could n’t see absolutely anything for not calendar month , yr . And not because I did n’t require to show them anything . Just to put together the footage took long time .
So while the process depart , everybody get a trivial nervous . A footling anxious . “ Are you sure you do n’t require this ? Are you indisputable we do n’t ask to pump up the action value , like having an opposition , like a missile strike ? ” Everybody is just dropping stuff , because they are take flight in the blind . Literally that sentence “ Houston in the unsighted , ” which is something used in the blank space program . Pretty much , the studio apartment was flying in the screen .
This is just a part of our much long interview with director Alfonso Cuarón . Read the rest here !
