Superman want Lois Lane . It ’s progress into the fabric of his narration . He ’s an all - powerful , godlike animate being and he necessitate something human to keep him tethered to this human race and give him a little weakness the rest of us can sympathize with . Human characters like the Flash and Green Arrow do n’t take part like this . But Superman and Supergirl — they both demand a man to remind us of their foible .
Reflecting back on time of year two thus far it ’s exculpated that ’s what the show ’s been miss . After deadlifting a space station last season , Supergirl has become a spectacularly competent heroine , so powerful she threatens to sideline heroes in any crossover , and often has to be kept out of the action on her own show to push back up the stakes . We ’ve stupefy respectable moments out of her valorousness — that time she stopped a caravan like a Fleischer cartoon or the one where she halted an intergalactic freighter to save her sister — but most of this season has seen Kara removed from the rest of humanity . Hell , even her big “ epic ” love affair was told entirely from the guy ’s detail of horizon with Kara ’s love life and regard positioned as favors to be succeed . She has been too super , frankly , and has needed her Lois Lane back .
So when Calista Flockhart saunter on screen last night , it was like everything in Supergirl just clicked back into place . The show was almost instantly at its estimable again , although it did n’t injure that Flockhart ’s Cat Grant was standing by Lynda Carter ’s President and tarted savaging Teri Hatcher ’s Evil Alien Mom Rhea ’s tiara like a ‘ ninety Aaron Spelling villainess . Suddenly all the fiddling problems of this season were gone , or at least so dull it was hard to deal about them .

While I know a lot of reader were n’t demented about Cat Grant and the publishing focus of season one , one has to intromit that the energy of the show shifted dramatically once Cat follow back into the picture last Nox . And one of the expectant reasons‚besides the non - stop zingers , her epic war of words with Rhea , and her unabashed feminism — is that she ground Supergirl in a means no other role has had the opportunity to .
surely the show ’s tried to give Kara a Lois Lane this season . James , Alex , Mon - El , and even Maggie have donned the mantelpiece of sounding board , and Lena Luthor has been as apt a witty damsel as any . But with each of these reference there ’s a lingering baggage . Kara ’s always holding back with those close to her . And while she ’s still bear back from Cat ( officially Cat has no idea she ’s Kara but unofficially she figured out James was Guardian without even looking up from her phone so she obviously knows ) , she can also be emotionally vulnerable in a mode she does n’t parade with any other fiber , seen in a wonderful picture where she unloaded her spirit to the good mentor in the DC / CW - verse .
Besides Cat Grant ’s excellent income tax return this week we also pay off just an A+ adventure narration . Every fibre got a glossy moment of badassery , loads of characters got paired up in new and comic combination , and the activeness . Never . discontinue .

While it might be well-heeled to note that none of the characters had bow set up in this episode that will close in a satisfying way in next week ’s stopping point , I ’m kind of finding it hard to worry , because I lastly get a live - action superintendent - story sport a legit foreign encroachment , team - ups with foeman , fertile laser use , and a people of Star Wars references . If every instalment was this much playfulness it would be a helluva lot easier to forgive the character gaffs we had to endure through this time of year .
