From host Scientific American Frontiers to writing a play based on Einstein ’s letter , Alan Aldais a true geek . We pick up up with him to find out out about his geographic expedition of thehuman brainfor PBS , calledThe Human Spark .
Many do n’t realize that Alda has a geeky side . Known for his 11 yr story discharge on MAS*H , the actor has always been transfix with science . He ’s been lucky enough to entertain that side of his life sentence by serving on the panel of theWorld Science Festivaland hosting the now defunct Scientific American Frontiers for 12 years .

“ We often start off with these expectant divide , ” Alda explicate . “ We say , we ’re the only I that exclaim . We ’re the only unity that express mirth . We ’re the only ones that establish skyscrapers . And little by little , as we ’ve explored this , I ’ve begun to see some of these lines blur and vanish in sure cases . What my interview with scientist , being out in the field with these animals , and taking part in these experiments has done , is I ’ve personally started to feel more connected to these other creature and see some of the root of my behaviour . ”
Alda went so far as to have his brain scanned at MIT ’s McGovern Institute , but it was n’t the first time he ’s done so . Turns out theproducers at Scientific American Frontiers have made Alda get his brain examineda few time already . While the nous scans in this case were done to show what areas scientist think are uniquely human , technicians at MIT remark that they would n’t have been capable to guess Alda ’s eld free-base on his brain scans — his noodle look a few years younger ! “ I ’ve carried that along with me for a while now , ” Alda laughs . “ It cheers me up . ”
Alda ’s heavy interrogation , which has yet to be answered involves our future as a species . “ scientist have told me that the ordinary lifetime of a species is about two million year . We ’ve only been here a fraction of that so far . Do we have a chance of have an average existence on earth ? Can you picture us here a million years from now . What would we be like ? What end will we be capable of ? I trust we learn more about ourselves and that this serial makes its own little contribution to that . ”
